GS Under Attack...

So, it's true. There is indeed a proposal in the new NC budget to reduce the Governor's School from 800 students to 400 students--basically, eliminate a campus.

I don't have to tell you how I feel about this, do I?

I first verified this information (the state budget document is here: http://www.governor.state.nc.us/library/pdf/budgetFiles/Book1-Education-web.pdf).

I then emailed everyone I could. Next, I started hitting the Facebook GS groups to encourage people to write letters to their representatives in state government...until Facebook decided I was spamming people and shut me down.

I have to wonder if this is connected to the troubles we've been having since 2005...I am trying hard not to be paranoid, but I still smell some ADF influence in all this...I do wonder which individual in DPI decided that it would be a good idea to cut this program in half.

I am optimistic right now that people will take the time to email their representatives and get this thing eliminated from the budget. The first meeting of the General Assembly to vote on the budget is April 6...not too much lead time to get out in front of this thing...I really, really hope enough people write in to make a difference.

I am worried.
